Red Top ATV Trail

Nearest Town: Isle

The Red Top ATV Trail lies off the Soo Line Trail, 4.6 miles from Isle near Mille Lacs Lake. The 25 miles of trail winds through a forested area and provides a pleasant excursion for riders traveling along the Soo Line trail. The Red Top loop winds through the forest on a gently sweeping alignment that is fairly wide and easy. Off this trail system, there are two technical loops called Foxy and High Adventure trails, designed to provide more adventuresome riding. The trail system provides something for all levels of riders and makes an excellent destination for the day or the weekend. The “adventure” sections of the trail were constructed to follow the natural terrain to promote drainage and minimize erosion not only preserve and protect the environment, but also add to the enjoyment for the riders. Because of the twists and turns of these trails, they are one-way travel to provide for the rider’s safety. One writer described the ride during the fall as if they had suddenly plunged into a “world of gold”. Golden leaves covered the trees and ground, fluttering up from the trail as they rode. This is quite a scenic, forested area with a variety of trail conditions for riders of all skill levels to enjoy.

Birds found here include Chestnut-sided Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, Broad-winged Hawk and Ruffed Grouse.

The Red Top ATV trail is open between May 15 and November 1, depending on the weather. The trail is also open to hiking.
